Keeping the community moving
A focused Wigan Roller Rink website that brings the community, changing venues and the next skating session together in one clear place.
Wigan Roller Rink is a familiar name for generations of local skaters. Its website now has a particularly practical job: helping that community follow the next chapter, with sessions at Northwest Rollersports in Atherton and Ashton Leisure Centre. The established Eckersley Mill venue closed after its End of an Era skate in August 2026, so clarity about where and when to skate matters as much as the visual identity.
This was a focused, entry-level website project. I wanted the result to feel full of personality while giving visitors straightforward routes to current information. A smaller build still needs a proper understanding of the business. For the rink, that means reflecting the people, music and memories behind the name and making the move to different venues easy to understand.

A strong identity with a practical purpose
The design uses bold typography, warm cream backgrounds, red and yellow accents and genuine rink photography. The visual language feels energetic and social, with scrapbook-style photographs that make the site recognisably about this community. It gives a local business a distinctive presence without needing a complicated interface.
The opening message explains the current situation rather than making visitors search for an update. Clear links to What’s On and booking information sit alongside the introduction. Contact options remain easy to find, so people who need a quick answer can move towards a call or an enquiry.

The right information in the right places
The What’s On area provides a dedicated home for sessions and venue information. The story page gives the longstanding community its own space, connecting the rink’s history with what happens next. Keeping those two purposes distinct helps returning customers find dates while giving new visitors enough context to understand the business.
Community photographs and links to the rink’s social profiles complement the main information. The website is the organised reference point; social channels add current moments and familiar faces. Visitors can read session information without being required to load an external social feed, and choose whether to connect to TikTok.
The distinction between a permanent venue and a session at a different location is especially important here. By giving updates a clear home, the site helps the rink communicate a changing programme without losing the familiarity of its established name.

A useful website on a sensible scale
On smaller screens the same priorities remain: understand the new venues, find a session and contact the rink. The responsive layout keeps the bold character while arranging the content for a narrow screen. This is especially useful for a leisure business whose visitors may be planning an evening out from their phone.
The finished site demonstrates what a carefully scoped website can do for a local organisation. It brings important updates, a recognisable identity and clear next steps together. The value is in making everyday questions easier to answer and giving the business a coherent place to keep its community informed. It is a practical example of my approach to affordable web design: start with what customers need to do, then build the right amount of website around that.
